Commuters feel the brunt of fare hike

Thousands of Hampshire commuters are today feeling the brunt of new-year rail fare hikes.
Commuters were arriving at stations this morning to find that prices had been increased by an average of 4.8 per cent. Passengers travelling on South West Trains, Southern and First Capital Connect have all been affected by the hikes. The new fares will see a season ticket from Southampton Central to London Waterloo increase by £180 from £3,952 to £4,132. To read the full article click here

Rail passengers return to delays and fare rises

Millions of rail passengers suffered delays, disruption and above-inflation fare rises on Wednesday as they made a bleak return to work after the Christmas break. Train operators said the cost of most season tickets will climb by an average of 4.8 percent, while other fares such as cheap day returns will rise by 5.4 percent. One of the busiest north-south rail lines was closed after engineering work took longer than expected and London's busy Liverpool Street was closed for demolition work. Passengers fight back over rail fare rises

Thousands of rail passengers are to stage a fares strike in protest at tomorrow’s price increases of more than double the rate of inflation on some of Britain’s least punctual, most overcrowded lines.
Organisers are planning to build on a successful strike a year ago in the West Country and will join forces with other groups to hold a much wider revolt. To read the full article click here

‘No fare day’ rail protests plan

RAIL users will stage a fares “strike” in protest at price rises of up to 15 per cent. Travellers will be urged to refuse to buy tickets on a day to be announced later this month. Peter Andrews, of commuter group More Trains Less Strain, said passengers were being asked to pay more to travel in “dreadful conditions”. The rises will kick in tomorrow.
